SORTING OF PULPWOOD IN SPRUCE STANDS

In this study, raw material potential of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) entailed by sorting of pulpwood was studied. The objective was to examine what kinds of groups could be created by sorting pulpwood log by log. Based on collected data, wood and fiber properties for every pulpwood log in three final cutting stands were determined. Logs were sorted according to diameter, ring width and number of annual rings. According to the results, it is possible to create pulpwood groups differing in wood and fiber properties from each other.
