Effectiveness of diffusivity estimation for modeling transient bound water diffusion in wood

Diffusivity estimation procedures were analyzed and assessed to increase accuracy of mathematical modeling of the transient bound water diffusion in wood. The analytical sorption methods and the inverse modeling for the diffusivity determination were discussed. Several problems decreasing effectiveness of the parameter identification procedures were analyzed: (a) unreliability of some data measured in experiments and used in parameter identification, (b) uncertainties of the mathematical model and its numerical representation in computing simulation results, (c) adequateness of an optimization procedure developed to identify model coefficients.
