Vacuum low-temperature microwave-assisted pyrolysis of pine Kraft lignin – Products and potential applications

In this extended abstract, an overview of pyrolysis products, examples for potential applications as described in literature, as well as the ongoing or planned research with our involvement are presented. Lignin pyrolysis yields many products interesting for different applications. While some of them are already described in literature, there is still a high potential for new applications and perspectives. In the Lignin2Wood project and other related studies currently conducted with our involvement, new prospects for lignin valorisation are developed. The substitution of phenol in phenol-formaldehyde resins by pyrolysis oil and the implementation of coke into magnesium potassium phosphate binders are currently the most promising and advanced projects, and publications on results are underway.
