To exploit and breed naturally extractive-rich heartwood of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) cost-effective high-throughput techniques to measure the heartwood compounds are needed. We compared traditional wet-chemistry analyses of phenolic stilbenes to optical measurements done by UV resonance Raman spectroscopy (UVRRS) and near infra-red spectroscopy (NIRS). Evaluation of these three techniques reveals that chemical analysis is still the most accurate one. Thus fine-tuning of the optical techniques is still going on.
