RESEARCH ON THE DURABILITY OF SIBERIAN LARCH HEARTWOOD WITH LOW ENTRY OF WOOD PRESERVATIVES

The durability of the heartwood of Siberian larch was examined through a screening process according to EN 113 with wood preservatives entry of different concentrations. Two samples were taken from different strains and were impregnated by a vacuum process together with Pine sapwood as reference. Five different boric acid concentrations were used. For eight weeks the samples were exposed to two different test fungi under laboratory conditions. By calculating the mass loss and the comparison with reference and untreated samples, the influence of the wood preservative on the existing durability was determined. The aim was to obtain an indication if the retention of a wood preservative can be reduced in case of a higher natural durability.
