Quality control of esterified wood using hyperspectral imaging

This study tested the suitability of hyperspectral imaging techniques to visualize the distribution of polyester in softand hardwood species on the cellular (confocal Raman imaging) and on the macrostructural level (hyperspectral NIR imaging). Spectroscopy-based imaging techniques, such as confocal Raman and NIR hyperspectral imaging used in this study, provided information on the chemical changes caused by the SorCA treatment in spatial dimensions. The effect of SorCA treatment on the cellular and macromolecular level was illustrated.

Keywords: citric acid, confocal Raman imaging, NIR hyperspectral imaging, principal component analysis, sorbitol, wood modification
