Performance of glulam beams after five years of outdoor exposure

The five years lasting test of the model glulam beams indicates that the performance of the respective material is determined by the wood species used, potential modification, the adhesive used, and surface coatings applied. Prominent decay developed on beech wood, while many internal cracks formed inside of TM spruce and beech wood. The exposure resulted in increased delamination, which was more evident in PVAc adhesives compared to PUR ones.
