Wood materials play a central role in the green transition of our society. However, the growing demand for wood requires a better utilisation of the virgin wood biomass for materials than energy as well as better recycling of the biomass. In Denmark, the recycling stations receive around 400,000 tonnes of wood waste each year of which only half is recycled to new materials (particleboards). The rest of the wood waste goes to energy conversion, even though 100,000 tonnes has a sufficient quality for recycling (Miljøstyrelsen 2018). Thus, there is a large potential for improving the utilisation of reclaimed wood biomass for new materials.
