A concrete flat slab foundation can be modelled as a beam on elastic foundation (Berdahl, 1993). However, new flat slabs are available on the Swedish market utilizing a thin flat slab of CLT lying on load carrying insulation. This results in a flat slab with a considerably lower stiffness compared to traditional flat slabs of concrete. Tests were performed to evaluate if this newer type of flat slab can be modeled as a beam on elastic Winkler foundation (Samui 2021). In addition, the deflections were compared to a criterion that they should not exceed 4 mm. The work is part of the project “Sustainable foundations for industrially manufactured houses” financed by Vinnova – Sweden’s Innovation Agency.
