The objective of this work is to investigate the applicability of the finite element method for modelling oil palm products. The methods used in this work are transferable to the applicability assessment for so far un-researched European wood species. Within the scope of this work, the suitability of the finite element method for modelling glulam beams made of oil palm wood is demonstrated in principle. Area as well as volume models can be considered suitable. The selection of the material parameters shows a significant effect and is to be analysed in further investigations.
