Clearwood properties of Contorta pine from Sweden

Contorta pine (Pinus contorta), or Lodgepole pine as it is called in its natural habitat, is the most planted non-native forest species in Sweden and by that the third most common conifer in Sweden. The species has until recently not been used in the sawmill industry, but recent studies have made it possible to use as structural timber within the EU and on export markets in north America.

Until now there have not been any studies on clear wood properties of Swedish-grown Contorta that can be compared with properties of native spruce and pine, and Contorta pine grown in north America.

Keywords: Pinus Contorta, Lodgepole Pine, Clearwood, ASTM D143
