Antimicrobial properties of different wood species

The focus of this study is particularly on the wood materials, which are used in the building and carpentry industry. There the decision of the interior surface materials can be used to reduce the amount of spreading pathogens. Hypothesis is that the surfaces of certain wood species will contain less microbes than others as a result of their antimicrobial properties. We predict that especially hinoki, sugi, pine, oak, and spruce could possess antimicrobial activity. Research questions:

Are there differences between the number of microbes from wood and other materials?

Will the number of microbes differ between the wood species?

Keywords: microbes, wood species
